Admiral Yacht Club

Admiral Yacht Club played host to the 18th birthday of the Russian bank Promsvyazbank on Saturday the 1st of June. It is an annual celebration for around 1000 employees of the bank, where they could come and enjoy the food, drink and entertainment provided for them.

The day was split into two parts, the first began at 10am, when people could arrive and enjoy some breakfast and the beautiful weather, which the event was lucky enough to have, before the opening ceremony at 12.30am.

The ceremony was a great opening showcasing football skills and a performance from cheerleaders who got the crowd going. The ceremony finished with an address from the president of the bank thanking everyone for their hard work and to enjoy the activities and entertainment of the day ahead.

This made way for the start of the various competitions between team groups in sports such as football, volleyball and other competitions were available such as an iPad quest, which is something different as it was the first time I had come across the use of a recreational use of an iPad in an event rather than for business use.

Other non-competitive activities included a climbing wall; bungee trampoline and coloured sticky tape as well as bowls, table tennis and video games located inside a barge boat.

The second part of the event was an evening programme consisting of more food and drink, presentations of trophies and medals for the winners of the day’s activities and finally famous Russian performers to entertain and continue the party until 11pm.

The selection of the event venue was very appropriate for the events purpose and was a great location for the days programme. It already had a football and volleyball pitch set up at the venue and the beach, pool and eating areas were great for the employees to socialise and relax as well as being complimented by the beautiful views of the lake. I felt a real American pool party themed atmosphere to the event, fitting the objective of an 18th birthday atmosphere. Adding to this were activities such as go karting, which reflected the fact that you are able to learn to drive when you turn 18.

Elements of the event that stood out to me, making the event special and fully catered towards the participants were the shuttle buses in place to bring participants to and from the event location, allowing them to drink without worrying about how to get home. The emergency services that were on standby in case of an accident due to the many potential risks of injury from sports or around the swimming pools, to participants and event organisers. The formal and informal mc providing narration of the days events as they unfolded and speaking to passers by as they walked around the event site, all being broadcasted over a tannoy system so it was able to be heard anywhere on the event site.

The level of organisation that went into the event and presentation of the event organisers also stood out to me. Many of the event organisers went to the venue the previous night to begin setting up and to ensure the day ahead went as smoothly as possible. Throughout the day each event organiser wore a black polo shirt brandishing the eventum-premo name and logo on the sleeve and stated organiser on the back of them, it looked highly professional and let everyone know exactly who they were.

The technical sound system was set up under a gazebo where it was protected from the weather eliminating the risk of rain, affecting this aspect of the proceedings. Other risks associated with weather such as the wind carrying away the temporary structures like gazebos and tents was also taken into consideration as empty barrels were ready to be filled up with water to create weights able to hold down the structures.

I believe the whole event was a great way for Promsvyazbank to say thank you to its employees and to encourage teamwork and unity. The wonderful weather, party atmosphere and the professionalism of the eventum-premo team all combined made this event a huge success.
